To help you plan accurately and avoid surprises, we’ve put together a breakdown of the most common additional costs students encounter when renting an apartment near Purdue University.

1. Application Fee

At the beginning of the leasing process, most off-campus student apartments will require an application fee. This fee typically ranges from $50 to $150 and helps cover background checks, administrative processing and application review.

2. Administration Fee
Administration fees cover the operational costs associated with setting up your lease, managing billing, auditing accounts and other administrative responsibilities. This one-time fee generally falls between $100 and $200 and is typically charged at application or move-in.
3. Parking

If you’re planning to bring a pet, it’s important to plan for additional pet-related fees. Most student apartment communities require both a pet deposit and monthly pet rent.
A pet deposit functions similarly to a security deposit and helps cover potential pet-related damage. This fee typically ranges from $100 to $500 and is usually paid at lease signing or move-in. Some deposits may be refundable, so confirm details with the leasing office.
Monthly pet rent usually ranges from $15 to $50 per pet and is charged in addition to your rent. Since pet rent is charged per pet, having more than one pet will increase your monthly cost. Some communities may adjust fees based on pet type, size or breed.
